| Useful Tips |
The most important thing to remember when making the most of your storage unit is to take full advantage of the height. This can be done by the correct packing and stacking of your goods. The use of Cartons, Porta Robes, Paper, Tape, Bubble-wrap and Plastic Covers will maintain and protect your goods whilst in storage. |
| Filling boxes to capacity allows them to be stacked safely and correctly. Heavy items such as books should be packed in small boxes so they are easy to handle. Pack and label boxes room by room, making the unpacking easier. Don't forget you may need to locate an item while its in storage so label each box clearly. |
Home Entertainment |
| Your electrical equipment should be handled with care. Wrap items individually in bubble-wrap, pack and seal them in boxes. Remember to fill any gaps in the boxes to avoid the contents shifting. |
White Goods |
| Fridges, freezers and other white goods should be thoroughly DRY and CLEAN before storing. Doors should be slightly ajar in order for them to breath while in storage and a deodoriser is also a good idea. Please ensure you have defrosted your fridge/freezer before putting them in storage in order to protect your goods from water damage. |
Furniture |
| Empty the contents of wardrobes, drawers and cupboards to protect the shelving. Clothing and personal goods should be packed in strong secure boxes (port-a-robes are great for hanging clothes) and for long term storage consider some naphthalene flakes or mothballs. Where possible, remove the legs from items of furniture, eg bed bases, tables etc to avoid damage and to save space. |
Crockery and Glassware |
| Protect fragile items by wrapping them individually in butchers paper which is available from The Rock (newsprint can stain). Stand plates, saucers, platters and casseroles on their edges. Fill any gaps in the cartons with packing for extra protection in transit, shredded paper or bubble wrap is great for this. Label all boxes containing fragile items and avoid storing heavy items on top of them. Tape marked Fragile is available from The Rock. |
Mirrors, Glass and Paintings |
| These items should be protected by packing material, eg bubble-wrap or in a picture box carton. Store them standing on their edges in an upright position. |
Metal Items |
| Wrapping silver in NON ACID tissue paper or plastic bags will help reduce tarnishing. |
Battery Operated Appliances and Toys |
| We recommend that you remove all batteries to avoid damage from leakage. |
Computers |
| Computers should be wrapped in bubble-wrap and stored in a good quality box. Fill any gaps in the box to prevent the contents from shifting during transit. For long term storage refer to your manual or check with your retailer. |
Petrol Driven Equipment |
| To prevent any fire hazards, drain fuel and oil from all machinery. This also reduces the risk of leakage, spillage and damage to other goods in your space. |
